Val d’Anniviers hikes: Moiry Lake & Becs de Bosson

High-altitude panoramas, turquoise glacial lakes, and accessible ridges for a perfect day hike.

Iconic hikes around Moiry Lake

Around the Moiry dam and lake, you quickly move from an easy lakeside walk to true high-altitude hikes. Turquoise waters, nearby glaciers, balcony trails, and panoramic ridges — this is one of the most spectacular areas in the Val d’Anniviers.

Not to be missed

Lake viewpoints: balcony trails with stunning views over the turquoise waters.
Moiry Hut: steady climb above the glacier, full high-mountain atmosphere.
Becs de Bosson (via Lona): circular panorama, endless horizon of peaks.
Partial family circuit of the lake: almost flat sections for an easy outing.
Photography: reflections in the morning, milky tones under clouds, spectacular sunsets.

Recommended routes

Moiry Lake loop (easy–moderate, 2–3 h): out along the right bank in balcony position, return along the left near the water. Regular viewpoints, ideal for a first visit.
Moiry Hut from the dam (moderate+, 3–4 h round trip): steady ascent on a good trail, close to the glacier front, panoramic terrace at the top.
Becs de Bosson via Lona (sporty, 5–7 h): long high-altitude route with mineral sections and 360° summit view (optional variant via the hut).
Balconies above the lake (moderate, 2–4 h depending on variant): cornice paths with constant views of the reservoir and surrounding peaks.

Level & duration

From 2–3 h family walks (easy lakeside or balcony routes) to 6–7 h mountain hikes (Becs de Bosson, ridge combinations). Gradual elevation gain on most trails; rocky sections near the glacier and ridges.

When to go

Late June → October, depending on snow. Clear mornings for reflections; summer thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. In September–October, softer light and fewer hikers.

Access & practical info

Road access to the dam area (parking available) and seasonal public transport in high season. Well-marked and maintained trails, with options to shorten or extend depending on your energy level.

Useful tips

Grippy hiking shoes, windproof layers, sun protection, water and salty snacks. Download an offline map if you plan high variants. Keep your distance near glacial areas and stay on trail.
